History[]
Karen is Dani Clayton's mother. She has a complicated relationship with her daughter since Dani's father passed away. Dani says that Karen "wasn't really herself anymore" and was quite absent, thus leaving Dani to raise herself. Even as a kid, Dani finds it difficult to live with her mother.[1]
The fact that Karen is not very present in Dani's life is shown when she isn't present at Dani and Edmund's engagement party. She is, however, there when Dani tries on and gets fitted for the wedding dress given to her by Judy O'Mara. She is seen for the last time at Edmund's funeral to support Dani. Despite their strained relationship, they are still in touch, as we see when Dani gives her a phone call before she leaves for Bly Manor.
It is unclear weather Karen and Dani keep in touch following the events at Bly, after which Dani starts her life with Jamie, as we never see Dani speak to her, but it's likely they don't. Based on the limited information we have about Karen, she would likely not be accepting of Dani spending her life in a serious relationship with a woman.
